Announcement by Gen. Julian S. Carr, with portrait, declaring his candidacy for United States Senator for the term beginning March 4, 1901, and asking for support from "the democratic electors of North Carolina" in the primary election on November 16, 1900. He promises to "strive to protect our people from...Force Bills and...preserve from Federal interference our new Constitutional Amendment." He refers to "the old Confederate veteran" who realizes that a new generation will soon be in charge, but those who fought in the Civil War "will feel a brighter satisfaction to be again represented in our highest Council by one of the "boys that wore the Gray."
