Several African American observers stand on the sidewalk in the background.The Albany Movement was a collaborative effort by such civil rights groups as the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to desegregate the city of Albany during 1961 and 1962.
