Description

Russell Gideon was born in 1904 in Nova Scotia and studied pharmacy in Boston. After serving in World War II he and his wife moved to Seattle, where he operated a drugstore for 17 years. He was a community leader, serving on many boards and committees, and was named Sovereign Grand Commander of the Prince Hall Masons. He was also known as a leader in promoting senior housing. For all his accomplishments, he was repeatedly named by Ebony magazine as one of the nation's one hundred most influential black citizens. He died in 1985 shortly before his 81st birthday.
