Description
Attorney General Robert Kennedy on civil rights violations against African-American people trying to register to vote. Kennedy describes one instance where a man attempted to register and was chased out and "hit over the head with a gun" by the registrar, and was then arrested for disturbing the peace. Says federal government only gets involved to bring legal cases when local officials refuse to act. Answering an unknown question, Kennedy mentions Martin Luther King's efforts in Birmingham, Alabama, likely referring to the demonstrations beginning April 1963, organized by Dr. King and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). Kennedy also briefly mentions the death of William Moore. This is most likely William Lewis Moore, who was killed outside Attalla, Alabama on April 23rd while on a solo protest march from Tennessee to Mississippi. From reel dated "week ending 63-04-08."
