Coretta Scott King, whose hat is visible behind the podium, spoke at the gathering, which was held during the eleventh anniversary celebration of the Montgomery Improvement Association. This image was taken for (but not used in) the article "King Family's in Town" by Arlam Carr, Jr., which appeared on page 1 of The Southern Courier for December 10-11, 1966.
