Description

The Mt. Zion church burned down on June 17, 1964, prompting Freedom Summer volunteers James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner to travel to view the remains. They were arrested for speeding and were later released, at which time they went missing. Their remains were discovered in August of that same summer.
