Caption on back: "Members of a Navy Base company of unlisted Negroes keep the wheels humming at a Navy Base on Espiritu Santo in the New Hebrides; Putting their varied talents into effect, they include within their ranks motor machinist's mates, boatswains' mates, signalmen and storekeepers; Full expression is allowed for athletic talents also; These four horsemen are [Left to right] : Walter R. Martin, Slc, of New York City; Charles L. Curtis, Slc, of Pine Bluff, Ark.; William Bennett, S2c, of Boston, Mass.; and Robert T. Hamilton, Slc, of Springfield, Mass.; The horses were procured from French planters on the Island.
