In this letter, dated January 11, 1862, William L. Scruggs in Chattanooga, Tenn. writes to O.P. Temple in Knoxville, Tenn., asking for Temple's influence with Colonel Baxter. Scruggs wishes to "build up" a newspaper in Knoxville, which he sees as a "favorable" location. He states that "Chattanooga will never be able to sustain a first class Daily Press."
