Description

Holograph, signed.James Miller M'Kim purchased for Maria Weston Chapman a copy of the Episcopal Prayer Book, published by Lippincott & Grambo, "containing as a frontispiece Schaeffer's [sic] picture of Christus Consolator" with the black man in chains left out. M'Kim intends to accompany the book with a letter giving a more detailed account of this "new illustration of American pro-slavery diablerie and northern commercial crudeness." M'Kim will also send Maria W. Chapman a Bible illustrated with the same frontispiece and trusts that she will send the latter to Ary Scheffer, "whom you very well know."
