Love excuses the delay in his reply to William Lloyd Garrison, stating that he had preferred to fully digest Garrison's last letter and to "read & consider" Garrison's letter to the Standard, which he pronounces a "masterpiece". Love states his agreement with Garrison on the necessity for the establishment of schools in the South. Love offers his personal views on the approach and tone of Garrison's letter to the Standard
