Description
Holograph, signed.John Cutts Smith offered to increase the subscription list of the Liberator in return for a loan of $2000. William Lloyd Garrison writes: "In my article on Mr. Cheever's sentence, you perceive I have broached my ultra doctrines respecting reliance upon the civil arm and appeals to the law." Garrison mentions possible adverse criticism by Joseph Tracy. According to brother George (W. Benson), the abolitionist cause is progressing swiftly in Rhode Island.Merrill, Walter M.
