Photograph of the Wheat Street Baptist Church, located in the Sweet Auburn district of Atlanta, Georgia. The church building, located at the corner of Auburn Avenue and Yonge Street (later William Holmes Borders Drive), was constructed between 1921 and 1939. It exemplifies late Gothic Revival architectural style. High peaked windows rise on each exterior wall. A tower stands in the front of the church.Wheat Street Baptist Church was founded in 1869. William Holmes Borders, a prominent civil rights activist, was pastor of the church from 1937 to 1988.
