Description

An oral history interview at the Greenville Women's Club by William Gravely with Mrs. Elizabeth Gower, who had attended the trial for suspected members of the lynching party which murdered Willie Earle. Topics of the interview include Gower's motivation in attending the court case, her perceptions of the legal proceedings and those involved, the impact on the local community after the trial, and later efforts by local community organizations to address racial problems. A final transcript of the interview and correspondence between Gravely and Gower are included.
