In 1937, the people of Humphreys County, Mississippi, erected this memorial in downtown Belzoni that honors male soldiers who fought for the Confederacy in the U.S. Civil War of the 1860s (right), women who supported the rebel cause in that war back home (left), and soldiers from the area who died in the "Great War," or World War I, (center)
