Description

Holograph, signed. In this letter, Augustus Hesse writes: "I can say now that I am a U.S. soldier I am examined of the D[octor] and sworen [sic] in the U.S. Arme [sic]." Hesse asks Deborah Weston to tell Mr. Humphry, the selectman of Weymouth, about his affairs, so that he can receive the town bounty. He thinks of his wife Almira and his "dear little sweet Anna." He trusts that his child has "got a good Lady Friend of Miss Anna Weston, which I never shall forget when[?] in the Battle field."
