Photograph of (L-R) Romare Bearden and Father John Logan at the Pyramid Club Art Exhibition. Bearden graduated with a degree in education from New York University and in the mid-1930s became a weekly editorial cartoonist for the Baltimore Afro-American. He was a member of the Harlem Artists Guild and in 1964 became the first art director of the Harlem Cultural Council. He has numerous publications on Art including his 1993 "A History of African American Artists: From 1792 to the Present" (published posthumously). His art work is featured in a number of important collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
