Description

Salmon P. Chase was an important figure in Ohio and national politics during the 19th century. His early years in Worthington and Cincinnati under the mentoring of his stern uncle, Bishop Philander Chase, shaped the remainder of his life. These excerpts, written by Chase, give his memories of early youth in Worthington and Cincinnati. His anecdotes give the flavor of life in early Ohio. Schucker's biography was commissioned by Chase's daughters and written shortly after Chase's death. It has long quotations from his letters and examines his political life in detail.Frontis Piece Title Page Chapter III The Bishop's School at Worthington - "Shaving a Pig" - Removal to Cincinnati - Cincinnati College - An Incident - Returns to Keene
