Description

Bill of sale dated March 12, 1860 for a Negro slave named John Brooks sold by Eleanor (or Eleanora) B. Watkins, in consideration of her "natural love and affection" and for $1, to Caroline L. Watkins, both of Howard County, Maryland. Witnessed by David T. Cross and Justice of the Peace Samuel Nichols on March 12 and recorded by Howard County clerk W. W. Watkins on March 13, the document identifies John Brooks' term of service as 14 years 8 months from March 12, 1860, at which time he is to be set free.
