DeLand pool. Improvised foundry, Daytona Beach. This is the blast division of city fireman J.L. Clayton's three-man foundry at Daytona Beach, Florida. It is turning out precision parts for experimental bombers. In the foreground is the blast furnace, in the background the junk heap of brass and aluminum scrap from which come the metals to charge the crucible. Arthur Brown, Negro helper, used to work in an orange grove until Clayton taught him how to handle molten metals
