Photograph of a family standing outside old slave quarters on St. Catherines Island, Georgia in the late 1870s. Five or six adults and seven children stand and kneel and face forward. Slave cabins were often made of logs, but on the Georgia Sea Islands they were usually constructed of tabby, a mixture of oyster shell, lime, sand, and water.Record Contributed By
