Miller asserts that he has purchased and read Garrison's "Thoughts", and states that they leave him with "mingled emotions of pleasure and sorrow". Miller recounts an incident involving himself and a member of the American Colonization Society over Garrison's book, and relays the disapproval of his own parents towards Garrison's writings
