Republican Club of North Hempstead

Description

This pamphlet includes speeches from a ceremony in 1872 honoring the first anniversary of African American suffrage. There ceremony included a presentation of a banner from the Republican Club of North Hempstead to the Colored Republican Club of North Hempstead. The banner was a commemorative item designed to recognize the first year of suffrage for African Americans. The bulk of the text is from a speech given by Henry W. Eastman, who reflected on the successes of African American candidates in the last election cycle, along with their party loyalty and insistence on supporting their political party, despite some issues of racism and discrimination.
