Image of several cabins and a small cleared area between the cabins next to the Tennessee River. In the clear area, African-American troops stand or sit with muskets stacked. There is a drummer to the right; two white officers stand off to the right.Title supplied by cataloger. Possibly men of the 14th, 16th, 42nd or 44th Regiments, United States Colored Infantry. Most likely the the 42nd as noted in Tennesseans in the Civil War Project (http://www.tngenweb.org/civilwar/usainf/usa42c.html): Colonel Mussey stated that on October 10, 1864, the regiment had about 400 men; did considerable fatigue duty during its organization; and had been chiefly engaged in the summer of 1864 in the hospital gardens.
