Description

Photograph of the 100 block North Carey Street in Baltimore, Maryland. Designed by Thomas Dixon and built in 1850-1851, these Waverly Terrace brick row houses feature a rear porch balcony framed by intricate cast-iron fencing (the fronts of the houses face the east side of Franklin Square Park). In the nearest or end-of-row house, the balcony is situated above a brick wall that separates the property from the street. In the center foreground of the picture are three people: two African American men leaning against the side entrance to the grounds of the house; and an elderly Caucasian man standing nearby and lifting his hat as if to cool off.
