View of the Reverend Martin Luther King, Sr., a civil rights leader and pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, at an event paying tribute to Jesse Hill, Jr. (not pictured), in Atlanta, Georgia.Reverend Martin Luther King, Sr. (1899-1984), born Michael King, was a Baptist minister and became the pastor of ebenezzer Baptist Church on Auburn Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia in 1931. He later served as co-pastor of the church with his son, Martin Luther King, Jr., and finally left his leadership role at ebenezzer in 1975. Martin Luther King, Sr. was a leader in the civil rights movement and became head of the Atlanta chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and led the Civic and Political League.
