Description

Photograph of numbers 812 and 814 West Lexington Street in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1939, several square blocks in this section of the city, including this brick duplex with gabled tin roof, were scheduled to be razed as part of the Baltimore Housing Authority's slum clearance program. In this picture, an African American man is sitting on the steps in front of number 812 and smoking a pipe. The sign in the window above him reads "Apartment for Rent."
