Colors of the 27th Regiment, New York Volunteers, now in the Military Bureau, at Albany, N.Y., with which is the following record The regiment was organized at Elmira, May 21st, 1861 ... received the flag from Co. "I," Capt. C.C. Gardiner ... at Fredericksburgh Heights, the star now appended to the staff was literally shot out of the flag by a shell ... Col. A.D. Adams transmitted the flag, after the expiration of the regiment's term of service, to this bureau.
