Hamer, Fannie Lou

Description

This folder contains assorted correspondence to Fannie Lou Hamer (there's one fund-raising letter from her), a number of materials related to her 1977 memorial service in Ruleville, Mississippi, a number of biographical sketches of her, and some fan mail. The letters are related to Fannie Lou Hamer 's electoral challenges to white Mississippi congressmen, wishes for good health, contacts for her quilting cooperative, notifications that food, clothing, and money had been sent to Mississippi for her to distribute, invitations to speak and/or attend conferences, and advice on how to prove that black women were being sterilized without their permission at the Ruleville hospital. There's a lengthy document about the May 1971 International Walk for Development of which Hamer and a Nobel Prize laureate were honorary chairs. There's also a November 1971 campaign card for Hamer, showing her picture and listing her qualifications, and poems about Fannie Lou and Perry Hamer by L. C. Dorsey.
