He offers consolation for the death of Estlin's nephew, Mr. Prichard. May tells Estlin that he is in Boston to attend the inauguration of Edward Everett as President of Harvard University. He discusses slaveholders' designs on Haiti and Cuba, and the American reaction toward victory over the Sikhs in India. The Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society contemplates a mission of inquiry to Haiti.
