This issue of Mosaic features autobiographical stories, letters, and journal entries written by South Boston High School students that are reproduced from past issues of Mosaic from 1984 to 1987. Laura Sullivan writes about running away from her aunt and staying with her brother, who helped her work through her issues. In another article, Sullivan describes getting ready for a baby. Lynne Hamilton writes a long essay about stress, family issues, violence, running away, social services, foster care, changing homes, and how these issues were resolved and how she overcame them. Tammy Lambright writes letters to her friends Stephanie and Vanessa, describing everything going on in her life and in the neighborhood. Pat writes about being molested by her uncle. Pat also tells the story of how her friend Val confided in her about painful memories. Martha Wheeler discusses growing up in the South, and leaving family and children to find work and a new life in the North. Hazel Cannon writes about growing up in an adopted family. In another essay, Cannon describes what it is was like giving birth. Tania Mason talks about understanding her grandmother’s mental problems and her strange behavior. Rachel Simmons talks about the disconnect she feels from her father and his side of the family. Maggie Gregario writes about her late father and wanting to know more about him.
