Photographic portrait of Mason Albert Hawkins (1874-1947), Ph.D., who was professor of Education at Morgan State College (now Morgan State University) in Baltimore, Maryland. He received his A.B. from Harvard University, his M.A. from Columbia University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. Before his tenure at Morgan State College, he was a school principal at Frederick Douglass High School in Baltimore. He also served actively in Baltimore's civic life as a member of the Board of Directors of Provident Hospital, president of the Maryland Colored Public Health Association, a member of the Commission on Preparedness and Defense for the Colored People of Maryland, a member of the American Academy of Political and Social Sciences, and Fellow of the American Geographical Society.
