Description

Dr. Thomas N. Harris was among Mobile's first African American physicians. Graduated from the Meharry Medical College in Nashville in 1899, he operated the Dr. T. N. Harris Private Medical Infirmary located at St. Francis and Warren streets. As he aged, Dr. Harris's beard grew longer and whiter, prompting the city's African American community to call him "Santa Claus."
