Massachusetts Rock Against Racism

Description

Edited footage of the Massachusetts Rock Against Racism's annual Youth Cultural Festival. This is the third annual festival, with the first two held in 1984 and 1985 respectively. The first two were also referred to as Youth Culture Festivals, rather than the Youth Cultural Festival (as the announcer refers to this event). The first performance is a student-led jazz and musical improv group. The second performance begins at 09:30 and features a band called The Circus. The event is hosted by Carter Allen, Elroy in the A.M., and Joe Johnson. Jose Masso speaks at 13:00 and Mel King speaks at 15:30. The MC Capers perform at 17:40, followed by the rappers White Boy Crew and MC Popeye and Spinach, who are a part of Massachusetts Rock Against Racism. A performance by a steel drum group Metro Steel Orchestra starts at 35:06, followed by a performance by Skin at 44:25. The video ends after a reggae performance with Massachusetts Rock Against Racism singers and a credit roll. The location of the event is unclear, though the first two events were held in Jamaica Plain.
