Scott King has been Director of the Office of International Students & Scholars at the University of Iowa since 2003. He has worked with international students since 1979, and during his career has served in a number of national and regional leadership positions in NAFSA: Association of International Educators. Among his responsibilities at UI is leading the University's international recruiting initiatives, which resulted in Scott being one of 20 American educators who traveled to Iraq in January 2009. I wish to introduce to you the Dean of International Programs at the University of Iowa and Associate Provost Downing Thomas. Many of you are familiar with Dean Thomas as he appears before this group on a regular basis and participates in many of the international activities in this community. While there are many accolades I could mention about Dean Thomas, the one that I can't help but mention, probably he gets tired of this, is that in 2005, Downing Thomas was named by the French government as Chevalier of Order of Academic Palms. And I just can't imagine that we've had that many knights standing at this lectern.
