Pierce, A

Description

"I am ranked with the fanatick Abolitionists... I have to say of my fanaticism, I can not help it. The right to enjoy life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness appears to be the unchangeable truth & if I try to get away from the subject, it will follow me. I desire the peaceful emancipation of the suffering & the dumb in our southern states..." Attended meeting in New York where the question of disunion came up; Wendell Phillips "bears the palm" as speaker there; Abby Kelley "took no small part in the different discussions that came up...," regrets that she has separated from the Society. Antislavery among Friends.
