It began with Jean-Pierre Boyer's land policies after the Haitian Revolution, which led to the creation of a feudal system in which landowners and the bourgeoisie which competed to exploit the masses. Similar structures of oppression and corruption existed under several Haitian leaders, and continue to the present day, with macoutes pretending to be democratic. The US supported Duvalier and the Tontons Macoutes, and continues to support macoutism in Haiti while claiming to support...
