Description
Parody of a Confederate half-dollar. A Southern gentlemen in a straw hat is thumbing his nose and pointing a revolver at a Northern gentleman who is trying to collect on a debt. Slaves are working in the background of the coin, overseen by another Southern gentleman who is holding a cat-o'-nine-tails. A flag and a palmetto tree are also depicted. The words Owe Ever, Pay Never\ appear at the top of the coin. The words \50 Cents\ appear at the bottom of the coin. The caption \Design for a New Coin of the C.S.A.\ appears below the image.\Illustrated Civil War envelopes with patriotic symbols, slogans and cartoons, mostly Northern, including a few Southern ones.
