Description
In this black and white photograph taken around 1950, Toledo Mud Hens baseball players are on the field warming up at a makeshift batting cage before a game. The game took place at Swayne Field, a stadium used by the ball club from 1909 to 1914 and 1916 to 1955. The field opened July 3, 1909 and the last game was played here September 5, 1955. The field was used for amateur as well as professional baseball. Major league exhibitions, Negro League baseball games, football games, golf demonstrations and other events were held here.
