Georgia Representative Stacey Abrams was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and grew up in Mississippi. She earned her bacherlor's degree from Spelman College in Georgia, her master's degree from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas, and her J.D. from the Yale Law School. Abrams worked as Deputy City Attorney for Atlanta, and then began entrepreneurial ventures, including a consulting firm and a financial services firm. Abrams has been recognized by multiple organizations for leadership and entrepreneurship. She has represented Georgia’s 89th District in the Georgia House of Representatives since 2007, and has served as House Minority Leader since 2011. Abrams is also a published author of eleven romance-suspense novels, under the penname Selena Montgomery.Stacey Abrams compares traditional public, magnet, and charter schools and their differences in jurisdiction and funding. She discusses the proposed legislation for Opportunity School Districts, that if passed, would group Georgia's failing schools into one district under supervision of the governor.
