Description

This image was unidentifed; however, it appears to be the ferry crossing on the Ohio River at Morvin's Landing in Heth Township, Harrison County, Indiana. The image was taken sometime in the 1960s. Morvin's Landing is the location where Confederate General John Hunt Morgan and his men crossed the Ohio River and began their raid into Indiana during the Civil War. The area was also a strategic location for enslaved people using the Underground Railroad who crossed the river on their way north. Morvin's Landing remained an important ferry crossing until the completion of the nearby Matthew E. Welsh Bridge over the Ohio in 1966.
