Walker, Al

Description

Letter from Al Walker, promoter and owner of the Augusta-based Dixie Fighters, to Ben Stein, manager and owner of the Douglass Theatre, regarding possible boxing matches. Responding to a telegram from Stein, Walker apologizes for sending a 125 pound boxer and offers Kid Leroy, who he describes as a willing fighter of 135 pounds. He compares the rumored 160 pound weight of Stein's boxer, Jimmie, to the 150 pound weight of his boxer, indicating his disadvantage. Walker mentions that he is sending Stein advertising materials.Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2005, as part of Georgia HomePLACE.
