View of Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson being interviewed at the intersection of Sagamore Drive and Woodward Way in Buckhead where Peachtree Creek had flooded the surrounding neighborhood.Maynard Jackson was elected as the first African American mayor of Atlanta, Georgia in 1974. He served three terms, two from 1974-1982 and another from 1990-1994. During his time in office he helped to remodel Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport, which was renamed as Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport after his death in 2003.
