Collected by Mary Celestia Parler; Transcribed by Neil Byer Adgie Lee Robinson Newport, Ark. April 13, 1955 Reel 210, Item 7 Praying John Once there was a man who pray, and he pray all the time. So the boss man, everytime he got ready for him, he was down on his knees. "Oh, Lord, please just have mercy on us. Come down here and take your servant. You know I'm worn and I'm torn." So the boss man, he said, "We can't get John to do nothing for praying. What we gonna do about it, he been a good worker?" Say, "But now he gonna go crazy if he keep on with that stuff." "Oh, Lord, will you just send your angel down here?" So some of the boys put a sheet around them, and say, "Oh, John, we come after you." He say, "Oh, Lord." They say, "John, come on, we come after..." He say, "Now, wait a minute, Jesus, I wasn't talking about tonight, I was talking about tomorrow (?)."
