New York - Aug. 13. Coverage on African students who were among more than 500 foreign students to arrive this morning aboard the S/S/ Groote Beer which was under charter to the non-profit Council on Student Travel. There were 252 Africans representing 25 sub-Saharan countries traveling under the auspices of the African Scholarship Program of American Universities and the African-American Institute. They were given four-year tuition scholarships by 139 college and university members of the African Scholarship Program of American Universities and travel grants by their respective governments. Maintenance expenses are carried by the Agency for International Development and are administered under contract by the African-American Institute.
