Hilliard, Asa G., III

Description

On April 12, 1990, Dr. Asa Hilliard, III delivered a presentation at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, titled “Past, Present, and Future: a Reality of African American Presence.” This short video recording consists of the question and answer session following the presentation. Dr. Hilliard fields questions about the study of the historical Jesus, recommended resources for the study of African history, and the future of civil rights activism. He recommends the works of Cheikh Anta Diop and Ivan Van Sertima for a better understanding of African history. Hilliard also argues that civil rights activists need to work for the development of the African community in America and for the development of the continent of Africa in order to be truly effective in achieving the aims of the civil rights movement.
