View of Atlanta Mayor-elect Maynard Jackson (left), with his wife Burnella "Bunny" Jackson (right), making a speech on election night at the Sheraton-Biltmore Hotel in the Midtown area of Atlanta, Georgia.Maynard Jackson was elected as the first African American mayor of Atlanta, Georgia in 1974. He served three terms, two from 1974-1982 and another from 1990-1994. During his time in office he helped to remodel Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport, which was renamed as Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport after his death in 2003.
