Description

The following individuals are named in the document: John Hicklin, Andy Boyd, Bill Hicklin, Anna Boyd, Polly Hicklin, and Elmira Boyd. In exchange for a year's labor, Grady will provide food and housing, and the laborers will receive "one fifth of the gross products of the farm and ten yards of osnaburgs pr womn [sic] hand." In the contract, the men and women "further agree that all lost time shall be deducted from their wages and if absent without permission for more than two days or fail to yield cherful [sic] obedience to all orders of said Grady or his agent, then the said freedman is to be discharged and forfeit all of his or her wages."
