Description
In the telegram Powell and Dempsey write on behalf of African American ministers who have been arrested in connection with the Montgomery bus boycott: "We shall pray for your guidance in this matter that you may not be persuaded by the prejudices of those who would turn back the clock to the days of chattel slavery." They compare racial persecution to the activities of the Soviet Union and the Axis powers in World War II. The two ministers were involved in organizing the "National Deliverance Day of Prayer" on March 28, 1956.
