Description
Image of a section of the front page of the September 21, 1906, issue of the Atlanta (Georgia) Journal. Two headlines refer to problems caused by African Americans. The headlines read as follows: "Negro dives and clubs are the cause of frequent assaults" and "Half clad Negro tries to break into house; bound over by the recorder." Headlines such as these provoked white men to begin a riot in the city on September 22, 1906.
