Description
John Peyre Thomas (1796-1859) kept a record of meteorological readings, 1827-1856 (16 volumes), titled "Diary of Weather & Occurrences," with entries describing common and exceptional weather events, as well as family news, plantation management and interactions with his enslaved work force at both St. John's Parish-Berkeley in lowcountry South Carolina, and later, at Valley Grove Plantation (Fairfield District, S.C.).
